In anticipation of my upcoming birthday, we celebrated in style at Onred. The restaurant is perched at the top of Red Hill — you can read more about it at their website, as well as get a look at why you should be jealous we ate there.
On My Plate:
smoked ocean trout with avocado and horseradish mousse, celery & mesclun salad & a poached quail egg
pan seared swordfish with lime mayonnaise, creamy mash, watercress, radish salad & smoked prawn butter
ginger poached pineapple with mint & almond pesto ice cream & crisp meringue
For Alex:
braised rabbit ravioli with pea puree, asparagus & bacon salad & ginger jus
wellington of venison with wilted spinach, caramelised shallots & sour cream dressing
chocolate brownie with red wine syrup, cookie dough ice cream & chocolate tuille

Since it was mild and sunny this morning, we went for a nice jaunt up Black Mountain — and brought the camera along.

Still excited about my project, here’s a quick clip of my ride to work. Yes, the trees are still barren and the air is still frigid, but look how quickly I zoom past the other cyclists! The video is 77MB (I’m still working on a good way to reduce file size without sacrificing too much quality), but is accompanied by Spiller and Sophie Ellis-Bextors audio delight, “Batucada,” found stashed away in my iTunes… hang in there if your connection speed is slow!

For those of you who may not have believed that stubbies is a real fashion phenomenon here in OZ, I was delighted to catch a snapshot of a stubby sighting while at the shops today.

To give a better impression of what Australia is actually like (because I know everyone has preconceived notions about what OZ is like) I’ve decided to undertake a new video project. I’ve strapped my camera to the handlebars of my bike, and will be capturing my rides around town. Keep in mind, this particular clip looks a bit dreary since it’s still winter, but spring is coming, so stay tuned — there’s more to come! The video will take a few moments to load, but a chance to ride along with me is not-to-be-missed!
