Solo

I’ve just realised that with all the craziness that’s happened in the month of December, I haven’t taken any time to post. As this is my last chance to do so, I’ll make it the best I can muster.

It’s been a big year, and I think the best representation of what’s been happening can be seen in the photos I’ve snapped along the way. We recently took an excursion down to the South coast and spend a couple of days camping at the Beachcomber Holiday Park, just south of Bateman’s Bay. Despite a few rain showers, the weather was gorgeous and the sunshine on the white-sand beach is a vision we’ll hang onto for as long as we can. The sand actually squeaks beneath your feet when it’s hot and dry, because it’s made of cilica. We spent lots of time wandering up and down the beach, climbing on the rocks and hunting for sea shells, which we found plenty of. There were blue bottle jellyfish washed up all along the shore, and the one fisherman we spoke with made his dislike of them quite obvious.

The other wildlife in the area consisted mostly of the huge numbers of kangaroo and wallaby that inhabit the campground. Upon arrival, we were excited to see so many of them up-close, but as we were admonished by the woman in the campground office and soon learned: “don’t feed them - you won’t be able to get rid of them!” They’re up for eating just about anything, from burnt sausages to chocolate chip museli bars, gingersnap cookies, and one was even bold enough to crawl into our gear storage and rip into the bagged loaf of bread we had forgotten to secure. Even after we discovered him munching away, he unabashedly continued his feast and was only driven away by the pointy end of a stick.

Never having camped on the beach before, it is one of the most incredibly relaxing things a person can do. Neither Alex or I has ever lived by the sea, so the crashing of the waves was a constant soother and we spent a fair amount of time just lounging around.

Out of time before I run off to work this afternoon, but enjoy the photos of the camping trip (and wish you were there when they were taken!)…

Happy New Year!
