FunHouse

Alex and I got lucky and had a chance to escape the cramped quarters of UniLodge, moving into the house of our lovely friend Wendy, who is in the Northern Territory for the next several months. She needed someone to care for her house and dogs, we needed someplace cheaper to live - it was a perfect match.

The house is only a few minutes from the city centre, which is perfect since the only transportation we’ve got is our feet. Its only drawback is that it’s a house that has definitely been here awhile, so the garden is overgrown, nasty house-pests have invaded the kitchen, and you can tell that all the modern features were added after the initial construction.

Out front, the patio was originally designed as a Japanese garden. The hedge that runs between the house and sidewalk is part of the original hedge that was planted all the way down the street when the neighborhood was originally built. In the back yard, we’ve found a lemon tree in far corner, and with some good care we should have fresh lemons in a couple of months. There are several planting beds in place, on account of the infertile Aussie soil, and we’ve got three tomato plants growing, as well as basil, cilantro and chilli peppers.

Hope you like it as much as I do!

To continue with the pet theme, here are a few shots of the crazy pooches, Artie and Spike, that we’re dogsitting while their mom is away on business.

Really, after the sale of the 100 millionth iPod, I thought messages like this were a thing of the past…

… so instead of a delightful slideshow of our non-eventful Aussie Halloween, I’ll have to post the photos the standard way.

Here in OZ they generally dislike good ol’  Halloween, and began the day with North American Halloween Prevention Initiative’s song Do They Know It’s Hallowe’en on the radio.  We saw a couple of children walk past early in the evening and rushed out to buy some candy… those were the only children we saw all night.

… so we ate the candy ourselves.
